Aveiro welcomes a special edition of NOVA Medical School’s Summer Medical School: Lifestyle, in partnership with the Casa Hermes Foundation
7th and 8th June | Casa Hermes Foundation | Skope – Health & Medicine Museum
On 7 and 8 June, the city of Aveiro will host the Summer Medical School: Lifestyle – Aveiro Short Edition, a special, decentralised edition of NOVA Medical School’s (NMS) educational project, in partnership with the Casa Hermes Foundation.
After the success of the previous editions in Lisbon, this initiative is now travelling to new territories, reinforcing NMS’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles among the youngest sections of the population. The Aveiro edition will take place at the premises of the Casa Hermes Foundation | Skope – Health & Medicine Museum.
The programme is directed to 20 children between the ages of 6 and 12 from the Bom Sucesso Primary School of the Dr. Mário Sacramento School Group, referred and invited by the Aradas Local Council, offering them a two-day immersive experience in key areas for their development: nutrition, physical activity, mental health and science.
Through practical activities, interactive workshops, self-care dynamics and science sessions, Summer Medical School: Lifestyle seeks to inspire healthy behaviours from an early age, with a lasting impact on the health and well-being of children and their families.
This edition is entirely free for all participants, thanks to a scholarship from Itau (Technical Institute of Human Nutrition), which guarantees the enrolment of referred children. The event is also supported by strategic partners, including: SMEG, SVR, Meliã Ria, Aradas Local Council, Aradas Family Health Unit and the Aveiro School for Professional Training in Tourism.
According to Conceição Calhau, Sub-Director for Community Outreach at NMS,
‘Taking this project to different parts of the country reinforces our commitment to inclusion and promoting health from an early age. This immersion has a real impact on children and their families, as the experience of previous years has shown. We’re delighted to be replicating this project in Aveiro, in a short version, at the Casa Hermes Foundation.’
Rita Gíria, General Director of the Casa Hermes Foundation, adds:
‘We are delighted to welcome this initiative at the Casa Hermes Foundation. We thank NOVA Medical School for its trust and the support of all the partners who made it possible to organise such a relevant event for promoting health and well-being in our community.’
With this initiative, NOVA Medical School and the Casa Hermes Foundation reaffirm their role as active agents of change in society, bringing science closer to the community and creating opportunities for sustained and inclusive transformation.
