On the 28th of April, while the country was in total darkness, National Museologist Day was celebrated at the Pharmacy Museum in Lisbon, and Skope – the Casa Hermes Foundation’s Museum of Medicine and Health was present at this event promoted by APOM – the Portuguese Museology Association.
Among other highly relevant topics, we would highlight the panel dedicated to Health Museums, which brought together professionals with diverse but complementary backgrounds on the subject of Preserving and Safeguarding Heritage and Collections in the Health Area. It was a rich sharing of experiences and reflections on the challenges we face in our mission to protect and enhance cultural heritage.
We would like to thank APOM for the exemplary organisation of this celebration, the Portuguese Network of Museums and Museums and Monuments of Portugal for their participation and involvement.
Particular gratitude goes to João Neto, President of APOM and moderator of the panel, for his vision and initiative.
It was an honour to share the panel with inspiring colleagues:
Amélia Lérias, Psychiatrist at Miguel Bombarda Hospital
Célia Pilão, Hospital Administrator for Cultural Heritage at the Central Lisbon Hospital Centre
Helena Rebelo de Andrade, Director of the Health Museum
Maria João Pina, Director of the Municipal Museum of Ferreira do Alentejo and Head of the Culture Division of the Municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo
Sónia Faria, Director of the Cultural Heritage and Museum Service at ULS Santo António
Together we reinforced the importance of health museums in collective memory and in the public service we provide to society.
