The X-ray tubes in the Casa Hermes Foundation collection are the subject of an in-depth study as part of the project ‘Trap in Glass – The Technology and Use of Early X-ray Tubes in Medicine’, now featured on the EPPIC – Early Photons and Photographic Imaging Conservation website.
This project aims to investigate, from a materials science perspective, early 20th-century X-ray tubes used in clinical contexts. The study seeks to better understand the materials used, the marks of use and the technological choices associated with these historical medical objects.
The research is being conducted in partnership with LIBPhys, VICARTE and the Casa Hermes Foundation, under the protocol with the Laboratory of Instrumentation in Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (LIBPhys UNL NOVA FCT Executive Education), which combines science, history and conservation, contributing to the enhancement of scientific and medical heritage.
